Travelling in an electric vehicle will soon become more enjoyable and less worrisome!
Hydro One Ltd. and Ontario Power Generation have recently formed a new company called Ivy Charging Network to create a fast-charging network for electric vehicles across the province. The project is being financed through an $8-million repayable loan by Natural Resources of Canada, and plans to have 160 fast-charging (Level 3) stations at 73 locations across Ontario by the end of 2021.

This is all in addition to the already announced plans by a few other companies, such as Volkswagen’s Electrify Canada (32 stations), Petro-Canada (50 stations) and Canadian Tire (90 stations), which will all make fast-charging of your EV a lot easier!
There are currently 4 stations already in operation in Huntsville, Parry Sound, Blind River, and Sault Ste Marie, each with 4 ports of 50 kW fast charging capacity. If you stop for 30 minutes at one of these facilities to have a break, get a coffee, or use the washroom, you’d be able to add approximately 150 km of range to your electric vehicle. This might be an excellent option to top-up your level of charge until you get to the next station or reach your destination.
Almost forgot: You can enjoy “Free Charging” for a limited time while the network is being built!
