Since 2015 the Federal Government has been very clear with the Canadian provinces and territories that placing a price on pollution is the most efficient way in reducing carbon emissions, creating innovation, and attracting investments. Yesterday the Prime minister announced a new 15.2 billon dollar plan to slow down the global warming and exceed all previous emission targets. As a result of this plan, starting 2023 the price of carbon tax will continue climbing by $15/tonne every year, and is targeted to reach $170/tonne by 2030.
The proceeds will be turned into subsidies for homeowners and businesses, further reducing their reliance of fossil fuels. Rebates will help improve energy efficiency of homes and buildings, cut energy waste, cut down electricity bills, support sustainable food and farming practices, make clean power available across the country, investing in clean and affordable transportation, including public transit, and zero emission vehicles. In January 2021 the Government plans to announce details for Permanent Public Transit funding.
Today is the 5th anniversary of the Paris Climate agreement. The world continues to change, and Canada needs to be ready.
