How to avoid failed solar companies in Ontario

Our company has been operating since 2010, and, unfortunately, over these years we’ve seen many solar companies in Ontario going out of business. Some have closed their doors voluntarily; others have been forced into bankruptcy. On top of that, with each new provincial or federal incentive announced, we’ve witnessed an influx of fly-by-night installers looking to benefit from favorable market conditions and make quick profits. This, unfortunately, can lead to broken promises, misleading information, lack of transparency, delays, excuses, lost deposits, incomplete systems, and poorly performing solar panels in customers’ hands.

All of this, of course, casts a shadow over many legitimate and reputable companies continuing to operate in this market – companies that are genuinely passionate about their work and committed to helping Ontarians transition to solar (if you want us to recommend the best residential or commercial solar panels companies in Ontario, please reach out).

For this reason, we strongly advise you to:

  • Review the list of questions to ask when evaluating a prospective installer
  • Conduct thorough research before making a decision
  • Avoid paying unreasonably large deposits
  • Withhold final payment until:
    • The solar PV system has been inspected by the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority (ESA)
    • Your Local Distribution Company (LDC) has installed the new meter
    • The building permit has been officially closed

The following companies are believed to have ceased operations, rebranded, or are no longer active in the Ontario solar market based on publicly available information.
